Hacienda del Álamo Golf Resort to host the 32nd Spanish PGA Championship
Sareb is set to host the 32nd Spanish PGA Championship, which will be held from 12 to 14 December, at Hacienda del Álamo Golf & Spa Resort in Fuente del Álamo (Murcia). This initiative aims to optimise the value of the company’s properties and consolidate Murcia’s appeal as a tourist destination.
This tournament is the last date on the Seve Ballesteros Circuit PGA Spain Tour 2019, one of the most prestigious events in the Spanish golfing calendar. For the very first time, it will be held on the course that has been designed by renowned architect Dave Thomas and which is currently considered the longest course in the southeast of Spain .
The complex – which comprises a hotel, tourist apartments, a Wellness Centre and Spa, a sports centre and the golf course itself – forms part of the property portfolio acquired by Sareb seven years ago from entities that received government funding during the banking sector reorganisation. Since then, the company has invested more than €8 million in upgrading its facilities and a further €10 million in maintenance.
Hosting the 32nd Spanish PGA Championship, featuring the best golfers in Spain, at Hacienda del Álamo Golf & Spa Resort, is a prime example of Sareb putting into action the strategy it adopted in 2018 to boost the value of its property portfolio. The company also signed a memorandum of understanding with the Murcia Regional Government last year, to promote initiatives that drive economic and social development in the region.
Last year’s winner Alfredo García Heredia, along with previous winner Jacobo Pastor are two of the favourites to join the exclusive club of players who have won the tournament on more than one occasion. Seve Ballesteros, Javi Colomo, Santi Luna and Ignacio Garrido all won it a total of four times.
