Social housing

We have created several social programmes aimed at helping less-favoured groups, designating a total of 4,000 homes to social housing. To date, we have already assigned more than 2,400 homes to 12 Autonomous Regions and 21 City Councils, meaning more than 11,000 people have benefitted.

We have also set up the Alternative Affordable Rental Housing Programme in conjunction with the Social Services departments of Autonomous Regions and City Councils.

This programme suspends foreclosure proceedings on Sareb’s homes so that mediation procedures with the occupiers of the homes can begin and their level of financial vulnerability can be assessed. If it is deemed that the occupiers are financially vulnerable, then the rental price for their home remains below 30% of the overall household income or, if this is not possible, they are provided with another home.

Sareb’s assignment of real estate enables the company to respond to housing needs in Spain and demonstrates its voluntary commitment to goals 10.2 and 11.1 of the of the United Nations 2030 Agenda which aim to “empower and promote the social, economic and political inclusion of all” and “ensure access for all to adequate, safe and affordable housing and basic services and to improve the marginalised neighbourhoods”, respectively.
